Philanthropy

Def.   Philanthropy is the act of donating money, goods, time, or effort to support a charitable cause, usually over an extended period of time and in regard to a defined objective. In a more fundamental sense, philanthropy may encompass any altruistic activity which is intended to promote good or improve human quality of life.  Someone who is well known for practicing philanthropy may sometimes be called a philanthropist.  Although such individuals are often very wealthy, people may nevertheless perform philanthropic acts without possessing great wealth.

Second Childhood has been donating unsold items to charities for years and we have just recently developed an opportunity for our consignors to contribute.  As a consignor to Second Childhood, rather than collecting your payments for sold items, have you thought about these funds automatically being donated to a charity of your choice?

Some of our consignors are now Second Childhood Philanthropists.  They generously consign their items to Second Childhood.  We then forward the consignor's portion of the sales (in cash) to a charity organisation of their choice.  Here is what one of our philanthropic consignor's says:

"I never really thought about selling my children's preloved clothing and items - was happy just donating them to a charity, however I used to be very concerned - I was never sure whether the items were sold for next-to-nothing, or the clothing shredded into rags (as often done!) or worse, just thrown out with their rubbish (again, often done!)  Now, I absolutely LOVE that Second Childhood sends my portion of the sales in cash, straight to my elected charity.  Most charities don't need second hand goods - they prefer good old cash, and I am now very happy that I contribute by cash donation, rather than not knowing if any good has come of my donating my items.  Second Childhood also provides me with a statement of items sold, and a (tax-deductible) receipt from the charity organisation."  Jacqueline, Kew.

Like Jacqueline, on your behalf we would be happy to donate your portion of the funds generated by the sale of your goods, to the following charities - HopeBuilders International, ST KILDA MUMS, SIDS, Diabetes, or Royal Children's Hospital Appeal.

As per our normal consignment conditions, the items and clothing needs to be freshly washed, laundered, ironed and not too old.

If you're interested in becoming a Second Childhood Philanthropist, please email to discuss.
